Review of Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys (2004) by Bryan G — 03 Jan 2011
I?m not a huge fan of Pokemon. I played the card game for like five minutes, and watched some episodes of the show and have seen some of the other movies. I do think Pokemon The First Movie is actually a pretty good anime film, but feel this one falls short to achieving that rank.
I liked the look of the new Pokemon in this movie, but felt that Munchlax? which to me sounds like a pill you take to quickly digest snack food? kind of resembled Totoro from My Neighbor Totoro. There was even a scene where it was carrying a bag over its shoulder just like a scene in Totoro.
Some of the new characters were pretty neat, and their stories were interesting enough to keep me watching. But I felt the battle between Deoxys and Rayquaza ended a little to abruptly for my taste, and left me unsatisfied.
This movie I can?t really recommend to anyone other than fans of Pokemon. This movie should give fanatics a thrill. Everyone else though may want to just pass over this one and try some other new animes. There are some new Miyazaki films coming out this week, try those!.
