Review of Point Blank (2010) by Tim M — 03 Jan 2012
Point Blank is an above average french thriller about Samuel, a nurse working at hospital, who is forced into a deadly game where he is stuck between gangsters and dirty police as he fights to save the life of his pregnant wife who has been kidnapped.
One of the main strengths of 'Point Blank' is the running time. This is a film that really starts fast and doesn't stop through its below 90 minute running time giving us chase scene after chase scene and a lean and mean running time.
Samuel (Gilles Lellouche) is really thrown into this deadly situation for essentially being in the wrong place at the wrong time, and it really serves the fast paced nature of discovery and realization which the viewer and Samuel experience as the story unfolds.
While this is an above average thriller I really was expecting more considering Hollywood is already planning on remaking it. Definitely a good, tight thriller but nothing in the way of visual design or storytelling that would make me thinking "WOW!".
