Review of Poetic Justice (1993) by Rob C — 07 May 2011
After the murder of her boyfriend Markell (Q-Tip), Justice (Janet Jackson) goes into a deep depression. She spends her time writing poetry and working at a hair salon in South Central, Los Angeles. She soon meets Lucky (Tupac Shakur), a post office employee, when he delivers mail into her salon.
Sparks don't fly instantly, until they meet again on a "run" that has Lucky and his friend Chicago (Joe Torry), delivering packages to another city. Poetic Justice is one poem after another, bringing the script into full view for the audience.
You can't help but get sucked into the characters and the dilemma's they're facing throughout their journey. Director John Singleton know's how to direct and this film shines with talent and artistic style.
Tupac Shakur is a powerful performer, taking Poetic Justice as his own and running with it. Janet Jackson has a voice you wish would never stop expressing ideas. This is the type of urban drama we need to see more of.
