Review of Pocahontas II: Journey to a New World (1998) by Mark S — 29 Sep 2012
I loved Pocahontas with a passion as a child, so you can only imagine how I felt as an eight year old when I found out there was a sequel. Unfortunately, my excitement was short lived when I found out she didn't continue her romance with John Smith.
It felt as if my heart had been ripped out. Admittedly, I know that Disney was obligated to stay true to history but it just didn't feel right. The entire movie seemed as if it were missing something.
For me it seemed as if the directors were just going through the motions of this piece and didn't really put much thought into it. The songs that were included in the movie were... okay to say the least.
I am NOTJudy Kuhn blaming for her performance; she captures the essence of Pocahontas, but it seemed as if the composers as well didn't give much thought to the soundtrack and only gave Pocahontas one good song.
All in all, not one of my favorite movies, and it seems to be the start of Disney's ineptitude in animated movies for a while.
