Review of Pleasantville (1998) by Matt P — 30 Sep 2010
A quirky little comedy/fantasy that I am surprised wasn't up for any major Oscars. This is a very underrated movie. The techniques, use of color(or should I say, little use of color) acting, music, theme/message-it was all very powerful.
In a society where everything is literally perfect we are set to believe that can all be changed by one person and various acts of adultery. Pleasantville is a film that gives to you a message in our lifetime we all have maybe seen at times or are possibly going through.
It doesn't cheat, or stall with the message, but leaves it as more of a subtle mystery especially at the end. This film is highly enjoyable but don't expect to get the meaning over one viewing.
