Review of Pleasantville (1998) by Shane Z — 04 Feb 2014

"Pleasantville" is one of the best and most original films of 1998, and it also has been up in consideration as one of the best films of the 1990's.
This is a comedy that reassures us that there is hope for the world we see around us represents progress. It begins by kidding black and white sitcoms, then it's pretending to be a sitcom itself, and it ends as something social.
The movie starts in today's (1990's) america, a teenager named David Languishes in front of the box, watching reruns of 1950's sitcom named Pleasantville, where everybody is always happy. Meanwhile, his mother is out and his sister, Jennifer, is preparing for a date. They fight over the remote and it breaks. Then a mysterious TV repairman shows up, gives them a strange remote that transported David (Tobey Maguire) and Jennifer (Reese Witherspoon) to Pleasantville.
Luckily, David knows this world well; he's a TV trivia man, Jennifer knows nothing about this place she calls "Nerdville!" she says. David and Jennifer have to play along the show's kids, Bud and Mary Sue, and their parents are Betty and George Parker(Joan Allen, William H. Macy).
This film is hard to dislike or worse. It's a charming, whimsical fantasy, that has surprising power.
"Pleasantville" is the kind of story that shows the good old days and has a fresh look. This film is flawless, brilliant and amazing. The direction is flawless, it's in black and white but as the film goes it goes to color, "Pleasantville" stands at color. WARNING: there is words like shit and hell said at times in this just to let you know.
