Review of Pleasantville (1998) by Raül J — 15 Aug 2009
The strengths of Pleasantville are the originality of the proposal to approach a very typical common (fight against repression, the liberation of oneself, the discovering of who you are) and the visuals, sometimes in the form of colourful metaphors, that enriches and makes the difference with what could have easily been a bland feel-good movie.
Happily is way more, don't dare to called it subversive, to me is too lighthearted for that, but at least fearless to point out some things and brave enough (although very politely) to end telling us there's not just one good way of doing things: there are as many ways as we feel are good for us.
