Review of Platoon (1986) by Deb J — 20 Jan 2011
A true masterpiece by Oliver Stone, dark, powerful, and very very tearjerking to me, I nearly cried at the end. This intense, gritty, and devastating film is the winner of 4 Oscars including Best Picture and Best Director, Charlie Sheen gives a Oscar-worthy performance as well as the entire cast even though Tom Berenger and Willem Dafoe were given Best Supporting Actor nominees.
This became one of Charlie Sheen greatest roles in his filming career, Oliver Stone wrote this based upon his own experiences in his tour of duty in Vietnam. He then directed two other films about Vietnam: Born on the fourth of July, and Heaven & Earth.
And be sure to see Oliver Stone in the film as a cameo appearance!
