Review of Platoon (1986) by House M — 30 Apr 2012
THE war-is-hell movie.
It gets a few point taken off because they didn't quite feel like people, but that might have been the point.
By making them just 'guys' it allows us to insert people we know into the characters. I have never been a fan of this 'blank slate' style, mostly because I can usually never tell if that was the point, or if it was just lazy writing. That, I will admit is a personal preference.
The only other complaint I have is the score. It's not bad, quite good in fact, just overused. Like the film makers are trying to force us to feel sad, through repetition.
