Review of Platoon (1986) by John Eric D — 02 Jun 2015
Platoon is not Apocalypse Now, nor Full Metal Jacket. But it's Oliver's version of a vietnam war which is more realistic in terms of combat action. The jungle scenes, the bankers, the rain in the jungle, and those gun fights and explosives.
These are just the example of how a true Nam war that turns out to be a memorable piece. It's not as dramatic if you compare to Capolla and Kubrick's Nam films rather it preserves authenticity on how these soldiers survives and live to a hell Vietnam war.
The middle scenes are the most dramatic ones especially the Vietnam interrogation which involves innocents. Not the best Nam war film but a very memorable one. Well acted, special mention to Charlie Sheen and William Dafoe for their tremendous performances.
Definitely a must see blu-ray remastered as you have never seen it before in HD. Definitely 4 stars out of 5.
