Review of Platoon (1986) by Mark N — 23 Mar 2012
Platoon stands alongside Apocalypse Now and The Thin Red Line as my personal Top 3 war movies of all time. I hated Tom Berenger's character in this film. Hated, hated, hated him. Hated everything he stood for.
I still find some of the scenes too graphic, but I can't turn away. The scene where one of the young, rogue soldiers makes the disabled boy dance kills me as if someone took a vice grip around my heart and ripped it out of my chest.
The soundtrack is just as harrowing. And for the record, still think The Thin Red Line was a way better movie than Saving Private Ryan ever was and should've won the Best Picture Oscar instead. Robbed.
