Review of Platoon (1986) by Troy F — 24 Apr 2012
Platoon stands as a truly great war film, but I feel it's strongly overrated. What I found strange for myself was that there were outstanding performances from actors, but I could barely identify with their characters much, they never stood out so brightly to me.
However there are impressively shot war scenes, and disturbingly realistic and violent events. Themes of war and even betrayal have their place in this well crafted war film by the great Oliver Stone, and he always makes great films, and Platoon is great.
It's just not a masterpiece to me, that's all.
