It is a relief that the first real movie made about the horrors of the war in Vietnam was as realistic and superb as this. 'Platoon' takes audiences into the war-torn jungles of Vietnam during the height of the war (1967-68), where we meet some memorable characters: young Chris, who dropped out of college to go to war, Sgt.
Elias, who no longer believes in the war, but is willing to fight on no matter what, and Sgt. Barnes, who has been wounded seven times since 1965 and wears the jagged scars on his face as a symbol of the torment and rage welling up in his soul.
Barnes believes in what he's doing, while Elias is unsure of Barnes' rather vicious methods of keeping the upper hand over the enemy. In the January of 1968, the platoon is soon divided between the two sergeants, and when Elias threatens to reveal Barnes' crimes to the authorities, Barnes responds in an unexpected way.
.. The following events soon drive Chris into a moral struggle that will decide the fate of his sanity.
