Review of Platoon (1986) by Anna B — 30 Jan 2015
Sheen is unsurprisingly awful, and his character is just a joke. Most of the characters are, really. Elias the superhero, Barnes the sneering villain, the virginal Taylor who suddenly transforms into a combination of the two, everyone else just background radiation.
Stone can't stage a firefight to save his life (flares! yelling! quick cuts!) and he doesn't do much of anything with his camera. I did enjoy most of the first half, but anyone who says this makes Full Metal Jacket look bad are mistaking authenticity for truth.
