Review of Platoon (1986) by Jonathan P — 08 Aug 2013
Perhaps much more effective in the 80s when films live Saving Private Ryan and The Thin Red Line had yet to be filmed Platoon is a harrowing look at Americas mistake. Oliver Stone uses his first hand experiences to portray a Platoon in the heart of the jungles divided between blood thirsty mercenaries and hippie free thinkers.
The plot is less about the war and more about the internal warfare that Chris Taylor (Charlie Sheen) struggles with during his time in Nam. The acting was superb and the cinematography was beautiful however Platoon is a tad bit dated and thus lacks the POW it had almost 30 years ago.
