I was on a superhero movie kick from The Avengers and wanted to watch whatever I could that I haven't already seen. Hulk was an extremely intriguing character in The Avengers, and I'd already seen all of the other superhero movies available on Netflix.

Planet Hulk is an interesting idea; an idea strong enough to keep me watching the whole thing out of curiosity to see how the story develops. Turns out, rather incomprehensibly. So many questions were left unanswered by the end of it. Maybe I'm not a big enough comic book dork to understand the scope of the story; I know it's a much larger story arc that eventually evolves into Hulk leading an army back to Earth to wage war. And that's really freakin' NEAT. By the end of Planet Hulk, I understood what happened in the previous eighty minutes...but didn't really understand why. Alas, the idea alone is strong enough for me to want to know where the story goes from here.

The animation is fine. I imagine that it looks like every other Marvel cartoon from the same studio. Computer-animated, it's a very colorful, "pointy," style of art with a strong does of an American take on anime in between. Not my preferred choice; I would rather have it been animated like the X-Men cartoon from the 90s, but maybe that's just the rose colored glasses of nostalgia talking. The movements seem a little stiff. Nothing spectacular, but definitely passable.

I enjoyed myself, and you will too if you're in the mood for this very specific corner of entertainment. Which, you will be if you watch The Avengers. Unless you hate superheros...in which case, go away. You probably like Larry the Cable Guy a lot.
