Review of Planet 51 (2009) by Deb S — 18 Sep 2010
This film actually has a decent premise, and at times it capitalizes well off of it. It has a good amount of humor and perilous adventure. However, I did feel that it dragged in many spots, some gags were overdrawn, some scenes felt really unnecessary, and the plot overall seems like itâ??s been done before (homage to classic sci-fi notwithstanding; there are actually loads of references and parodies of other sci-fi films in this picture).
On the plus side, the animation quality is top-notch, the voice-acting is excellent, and the production value is high. Some elements of the production design donâ??t really make sense (why do these aliens speak English?), but other parts are very clever.
