Review of Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987) by Peter N — 07 Aug 2012
One of my favorite comedies of all time, this film features one of the greatest collaborations ever seen. Steve Martin and John Candy are both funny on their own, but the combination of the two is inspirational.
Many comedy pairings come up flat, but this one is everything you'd hope it would be. The two leads manage to feed off each other's wildly different comedic styles, creating an appealing odd couple who are brought together by their memorable cross-country trip.
Apart from Neal Page's (Martin) profanity-filled rant (which is very out of place in this otherwise tame film), this is a fun, somewhat wholesome, enormously entertaining classic.
