Review of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) by Daniel M — 30 Dec 2008
This was said to be the worst movie ever made, so, with that kind of label, I went into this one, expecting it to be terriable, but surprisingly, I liked it a lot. Sure, by late 50's standards, I could see this as being a terriable movie, but this film looks like Casblanca in comparison to the dreck that is made today.
It's certanly the best worst film that I've ever seen. It's fun and entertaining from start to finish. It includes an endless amount of flaws, with the directing, acting, and writing. I think the mistakes are what make this film amusing, because some are easy to pinpoint, and others are not.
It's like a 79-minute game of hide and seek for the viewer. From Criswell's idiotic openning lines, to his idotic closing ones, there are so many problems, you probably won't catch them all in just one viewing.
The history behind how this movie was developed, and what director Wood did to get the picture off the ground, is as funny as the film itself. Eventhough It's not meant to be a comedy, It is still hilarious, should be titled A Comedy Of Errors.
