Review of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) by Brian R — 15 Aug 2012
"Greetings, my friend. We are all interested in the future, for that is where you and I are going to spend the rest of our lives.".
Has there ever been a more preposterous opening line in film? But then the whole film is preposterous - the script, acting and direction are so dreadful that they are beyond criticism, yet they make for a strangely watchable film - far too watchable for it to truly earn the tag "The Worst Film Ever Made" which is often attached to it. And there are some elements which are a positive delight - the camp, eye-rolling shenanigans of Bunny Breckinridge as The Ruler and the chiropractor of director Ed Wood's wife standing in for the deceased Bela Lugosi (he looked nothing like him and was about 8 inches taller). I can't help but admire Wood after watching this film - he never let a lack of talent, money or resources thwart his ambition.
