Review of Plan 9 from Outer Space (1957) by José M — 13 Apr 2013
Plan 9 from Outer Space, what is this plan I have heard? Plan 9 from Outer Space is a film written and directed by Ed Wood starring a lot of unknown people with special guest Bela Lugosi. Plan 9 has been considered as one of the worst movies of all time.
Yet, the film has stood the test of time and is one of most popular no budget films. The film is practically incoherent in its plot as angered by the âstupid mindsâ? in planet earth, humanoid aliens invade planet to raise a zombie army to march up to the capital of Earth and take over.
It is ridiculous to if you ask me. However, that is not the best part of the film. The film is plagued by cheap settings, cardboard tombstones, inept acting, unfocused cinematography, and really bad editing.
These ingredients have made the disaster of a film into a charming so bad it is good. I would not be surprised if it has gained a cult following. What did I think of it? I never thought I would need a drink really, really, really bad.
Yet, there is certain charm to the film such as the really bad and eccentric dialogue along with the uneven acting and Dracula roaming around. Yet, what I like the most was the appearance of Vampira which the Misfits would idolize and even name a song after her.
Plan 9 may be a very bad film, but it has a lot of guts and spirit which says something especially when we patiently await the adaptation of the board game Battleship. You have sunk my ship.
