Review of Places in the Heart (1984) by Paul J — 10 Nov 2013
After Benton's huge success with Kramer vs. Kramer, he returned to his roots, Places in the Heart is an original Oscar- winning screenplay that explores his own experiences growing up in Texas during the depression.
The stories and characters were inspired by real people his family knew. Sally Field's character is inspiring, strong and genuine. The supporting characters are equally interesting. In fact, I'd love to see a movie with just Moze, Mr.
Will & Possum. A beautiful assortment of individuals. Glover and especially Malkovich are perfectly cast. It might be slightly sentimental at times, but its heart is firmly in the right place and best of all, the movie is beautifully honest.
