Review of Pitch Perfect (2012) by Omar L — 01 May 2014
There is nothing beyond this movie besides having fun watching people have fun singing fun songs. Pop music may seem as inconsequential an art form as candy is to cuisine, but there's no question that candy means a lot people around the world.
The movie makes the wise decision by not inventing overly complicated conflicts between the characters; instead, the focus is on the quirky personalities and of course the songs themselves. One of my favorite characters was Jesse, a character that could have easily been made into an unsympathetic egotist, but instead shows insight that good music doesn't necessarily need to be confined to simple listening, but can evoke emotions when applied to moving images.
"Don't You Forget About Me" indeed.
