Review of Pitch Perfect (2012) by James Z — 06 Dec 2015
Beca Mitchall (Anna Kendrick) a young independent music producer, has a hard time settling into college life. After being noticed for her incredible singing voice however, she ends up joining The Barden Bellas, an all-female a cappella group trying to beat the all-male group, The Trebles. Now Beca must try to impress the strict leader Aubrey (Anna Camp) with her new friends, in order to win the regional championships.
At first glance, Pitch Perfect may look like your typical high-school musical comedy in terms of plot and character arcs. However the great acting coming from the supporting cast, including the brutally honest but sweet Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson), the creepy Lilly (Hana Mae Lee) and the always entertaining reporters John (John Micheal Higgins) and Gail (Elizabeth Banks), make this worth watching for solely the comedic moments alone.
Although the story may be on the predictable side, the incredible singing sequences from the group themselves and some incredibly sweet moments, puts the Barden Bella's big screen debut, ahead of anything made by the live-action Disney Channel sitcom films anyday.
