Review of Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) by Nozaman — 25 Sep 2015
Never understood the vast popularity of this series. It's not bad, but it's like Bring It On with acapella singing and not as funny. The sequel is understandably not as fresh as the first one. It features the odd combination of the script trying too hard and the actors not trying hard enough.
Keegan-Michael Key is pretty funny as a record producer, but that's about all that's new. The boy/girl relationships in particular have lost their charm. Overall, the film suffers from the lack of tension that befalls many sequels.
As a result, tension is manufactured in unconvincing ways. This is a decent diversion for a couple hours on the couch; unfortunately, nothing more.
