Review of Pitch Black (2000) by Josh H — 30 Jun 2011
"Fight Evil With Evil.".
Director David Twohy's (The Chronicles Of Riddick) visually-charged science-fiction horror film Pitch Black is flat-out awesome. A scary-as-hell, blood-thirsty, extra-planetary work of excellence. Twohy's unique visual tone is quite dazzling to look at, and works perfectly here. It's a wickedly tense, hardcore and hardboiled creature feature that eventually lead to the highly enjoyable "Riddick" trilogy. A remarkably eye-popping science fiction horror thriller that thrills, chills and spills plenty of blood. An electrifyingly nightmarish and bone chilling escapade through the horrors of total darkness. A blast of colorful intensity for the eyes and quite the fright, this film is truly like something out of a nightmare. Eerie as hell, creepy as can be and at some points downright frightening, Pitch Black is a stomach-churning, deeply wretched, spendidly volatile, supremely imaginative and deeply absorbing science fiction adventure that's highly recommended.
Vin Deisel atars in the role that catapulted him to superstardom, and does a disturbingly great job. Pitch Black also features talents from the likes of Cole Hauser, Radha Mitchell and Keith David.
