Excellent and original film.
Some characters are rather typical of a cliche such as Elizabeth appearing in many damsel in distress scenes that could appear coincidental: Jack rescuing her after she falls seems to take her encounters with pirates affiliated with each other to quite a high level. This is compensated by the legendary Jack sparrow who's intriguing personality can combine with his amazing heroism to a level that we haven't seen before.
