Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) by Jake C — 09 Oct 2018
Pirates of the Caribbean: Curse of the Black Pearl is one of my favorite films of all time. Going into it you'd just expect a big-budget, unfunny, slapstick mess aimed at children, but it's leagues above that.
There really wasn't another movie like this at the time. Johnny Depps performance excellently captures the spirit of the character and the supporting cast, specifically Kiera Knightley, are also really good as well as there being a villain that isn't just a generic threat but an actually fleshed out character with a personal goal.
The best parts though, are the unpredictability of the main character and the score which is arguably one of the best in cinema history. This may not be an emotionally touching film, but it's a really fun film with a surprising amount of depth to it.
