Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl (2003) by Katie B — 22 May 2017
Because Pirates Of The Caribbean was based on a theme park ride at DisneyWorld, many people had their doubts about whether it would be a good movie or not. However, their expectations were beaten and The Curse Of The Black Pearl proved to be a highly entertaining film with a strong leading performance from Johnny Depp as the hilarious Captain Jack Sparrow.
The narrative features a lot of twists and turns as we find out there's been a curse placed on the crew of the Black Pearl. They're neither alive nor dead and the only way to break the curse is to get the blood from the living child of 'Bootstrap' Bill Turner. The captain of the Black Pearl is Barbossa in a brilliant performance from Geoffrey Rush and he will stop at nothing to break the curse.
In the midst of all the swashbuckling adventures, romance makes an appearance between Orlando Bloom's Will Turner and Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann. The two share a lot of chemistry and their relationship develops over the course of the next two films.
