Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) by Connor S — 04 Sep 2014
Well, what can I say? I really enjoyed this series, up until this movie. This was just horrible, and it will likely preclude me from watching anymore installments.
First off, Penelope Cruz simply cannot act. It's excruciatingly tedious to watch her attempt to vomit out her lines, and her reactions are the worst. She just absolutely destroys anything she touches.
But, that wasn't the only issue. They got rid of so many of the cool side characters, that it condensed and suffocated the film. And I'm not talking about Will and Elizabeth - though I did like that story line. I get why that ended - their story had run its course. I was more upset that we no longer had interesting support characters like Norrington, Cotton, Cotton's Parrot, Marty, Bootstrap Bill, Calypso, Pintel, Ragetti, even Jack (monkey). Those were all gone in the 4th. All that we were left with were Gibbs, some weak ass Mormon dude, and a fucking Mermaid.
Though not on the same level, this series mirrors the Indiana Jones series in that, I will always enjoy the trilogy, and I will from the finish of the review ignore that the 4th installment ever existed.
Grade = 2/10.
