Review of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) by Renzo V — 10 Aug 2014
"CAPTAIN JACK SPARROW AND THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH".
- The fourth installment of the popular Disney franchise 'Pirates of the Caribbean' is this 2011 fantasy adventure 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago, Memoirs of a Geisha). I must confess I'm no fan of the series, although I do praise Johnny Depp (Edward Scissorhands, Sleepy Hollow) for his role as Captain Jack Sparrow. It's the only part that doesn't contain Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley. The effects are good, but the story's a bit to sloppy. I do think it's a great movie to watch with the kids. Starring next to Depp are Penélope Cruz (Vanilla Sky, Blow), Geoffrey Rush (House on Haunted Hill, The King's Speech), Ian McShane (Dead Wood, Case 39),Kevin McNally (Johnny English, Valkyrie), Richard Griffiths (Harry Potter saga), Sam Claflin (Hunger Games saga) and Keith Richards as Captain Teague. Prepare for the sea-adventure of a lifetime.
After facing King George II (Griffiths), who wants to know everything about a secret map, and escaping from the British royal guards with the help of Joshamee Gibbs (McNally), captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) learns that someone is impersonating him to recruit a crew for a special adventure: finding the Fountain of Youth. Sparrow catches the imposter, who is revealed to be his ex-lover Angelica (Cruz). She claims to be the daughter of the most notorious pirate, captain Blackbeard (McShane). They are determined to find this Fountain of Youth to save Blackbeard from being killed by the hands of a man with a wooden leg.
In the meantime, Gibbs who has stolen the map to the Fountain of Youth, had been captured by Captain Hector Barbossa (Rush), who is now in service of King George II after his lost 'The Black Pearl' and his leg...
