In order to really appreciate this movie, you need to look past the computer plot base and watch steve and the way his inner brain workings are illustrated. also notice the way they portray Gates and his seemingly harmless yet overpowering powermonger presence around Steve.
everything ties into Steve's unrelenting hunger to be the best.
