Review of Pinocchio (1940) by Tim R — 19 May 2012
From an animation standpoint, its incredible, especially since it was 1940. As a movie? Not so great. I felt that they spent too much energy with the animation, and developing new techniques and showing off, that they forgot about story.
So much of the movie doesn't make any sense. The entire pleasure island scene could have been completely omitted and the movie would have been much better. And why was the Honest John and his side kick buddy an animal, when everyone else was a human? I'm fine when they are all animals, or half and half, but it didn't make much sense to just have 2 guys be animals and the rest not.
Aside from all that, even though I know Disney pushes movies for "all ages" and I understand that, I think the general public views this as a children's film, and this is horrifying and scary.
