Review of Pinocchio (1940) by Cecelia%20 N — 20 Oct 2018
This delightful classic film still holds up today in my opinion. Disney crafts a heart-warming tale of a lonely old craftsman who longs to have a child of his own to love and provide for. Once his wish brings a puppet of his own hand to life Gepetto finds out that raising a child is not at all like it seems.
Children are curious and willful and Pinochio is no exception at all! The story follows Pinocchio as he learns about the world around him the good and bad. The underlying star of the show however is none other than Jiminy Cricket who once a ill-dressed presumed homeless nomad declares he can provide the service of a conscious because he knows best.
This does not provide to be at all true as Jiminy provides few moments of good advice and even gets angry enough to abandon Pinocchio at one point. This struggle is hilarious to anyone who has even had to babysit a child for more than an hour and provides an entertaining watch for the parents in the audience.
If you have skipped over this 77 year old film I urge you to reconsider! If you are already a long time fan I urge you to check out Jiminy Cricket's "I'm No Fool" education serious from the 1950's to see how much better of a conscience he has become since his first appearance.
