Review of Pink Flamingos (1972) by Jim T — 15 Apr 2012
An amazing exploitation movie that is both foul and captivating in equal measures. Waters social commentary is amazingly profound as it masquerades as ridiculous characters in comic situations. Far from a mainstream movie this work is for Waters fans and those who revel in experimental movies with real people acting like cartoons. The heavy rockabilly soundtrack is raucous and fitting to the bizarre world these caricatures inhabit.
Nudity is one of the lesser shocking elements and a quick scan of the Wiki entry will tell you whether you should consider a viewing. New to Waters? Try "A Dirty Shame" or the '97 documentary "Divine Trash" first and see if there is something you want to see more of.
