Review of Pineapple Express (2008) by Denny D — 16 Apr 2012
I was lucky enough to catch an advance screening of Pineapple Express at the Dryden Theater at the George Eastman House. The film is exactly what I would/could have hoped or expected: a very funny, ultraviolent, stylish and exciting comedy/action picture from the Apatow machine.
It is funny (very funny). It is violent (excessively so). It is well made (by David Gordon Green, one of the most exciting new talents in film). The main problem? Overlength. This is a 90 minute film stretched to 110 minutes, and unwisely so.
Although it never runs out of steam, it does begin to wear...a shame all the more since the director has already confirmed an extended dvd cut!
