This film about mommy love and murder, is nasty, ambitious and bleak. Unfortunately, PIETA, with its obvious biblical overtones, becomes tiresome far too quickly and you can see the strains of its director desperate to shock and pummel his audience.
He never truly succeeds and PIETA ultimately fails, becoming one more ugly exercise in filmmaking that's actually not that ugly at all.
