Review of Pierrepoint: The Last Hangman (2005) by Erno K — 26 Nov 2007
I gotta say, not many movies are made about hanging people. Make more, I say! Pierrepoint apparently hanged over 600 people in real-life and the movie is about the pride he took from his work, as well as the inevitable toll such a job takes on you.
He was a hangman for 22 years and was responsible for snapping the necks of many a famous war criminal. But times change and gradually the atmosphere in Britain turns against the death penalty. A fascinating inside look into the world of an executioner.
Timothy Spall is excellent.
