Review of Pieces of April (2003) by Yanjie H — 15 Jun 2007
I bought the movie because I'm a huge John Gallagher Jr. fan. So much that I didn't care that Katie Holmes was starring in it.
And I have to admit, it turned out to be a surprisingly good movie. The movie's main focus was its characters and their relationships. It had its comedic moments but it's mostly a drama about family and the forces that bring them together.
That sounds really corny but it actually isn't. The acting was incredibly real and organic probably because of the great writing. Patricia Clarkson, who plays the cancer-ridden, bitterly caustic, and at times sadistic mother, is the main highlight of the movie. But the movie also really thrived because of the cast and the great acting done by everyone.
