Review of Pieces (2003) by Josh G — 08 Aug 2007
It looks like a really bad horror film, and that's exactly what it is. It's the kind that people find funny BECAUSE of how bad it is. But wait, the music is pretty awesome. But wait, there's actually a bit of symbolism. Every time I watch this film, I respect it a little bit more. Not to mention the fact that all of the kills in this movie are grade A. If there is a problem with this movie, it's that it's kind of low on the other thing that a good bad horror movie needs besides violence: nudity. There's some, but not nearly enough.
Edit: Although I still feel that J.P. has a bad habit of squandering perfectly good opportunities for nude scenes (come on, that girl at the pool could have taken it all off -- not to mention the girl in the boat at the beginning of SLUGS), I am changing my review to five stars.
A good movie is not simply one that is well-made or well-acted. A good movie is one that has the ability to make you come back again and again. In this respect, PIECES is definitely a five-star film. Also, since it's the unofficial gold standard of the "so bad it's good" horror genre, the choice was clear. PIECES is A+.
