Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Elizabeth N — 13 May 2009
A film that keeps you gripped to the edge of your seat but then never delivers the ending you want - which is really the beauty of it. The actually narrative of the film is fantastic, cutting between characters, flash backs, and all the while suggesting a more sinister undertone. The film has aspects of the mystical and unnatural, but at the same time it never outright explains exactly what it happening.
Overall the cinematography and narrative are birlliant, the acting is good, the only problem is the film can be very slow in places - but personally I love that aspect of the film so it doesn't bother me.
