Review of Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) by Anna B — 28 Jul 2012
Weir's exploitation roots show through at times, with some very clumsily staged sequences and wretched dialogue, and it starts to meander around the third act. Also the pan flute. But none of that is too major, as he manages to conjure an off-kilter, creepy atmosphere, and create a real sense of mystery without resorting to glib explanations.
It starts strong and kinda peters out, pretty much the exact opposite of the other movie I watched today, Knife in the Water. Also holy shit Anne Lambert's face.
