Review of Picnic (1955) by Louise B — 11 Jan 2009
This was a little hokey at times but it is adapted from a stage play and that occasionally happens. The scene where William Holden and Kim Novak dance at the picnic is the one to watch for. With the Chinese lanterns reflecting in the lake at dusk and one of the most beautiful actresses of that in her prime.
Since it was actually filmed in the midwest it makes it all the more authentic feeling. Ben Mankiewicz, the day host on TCM, said that William Holden is actually a terrible dancer in real life and the dance scene was filmed with the cinematographer circling around he and Kim Novak.
He also added that he stepped on her feet a few times. I just thought that was a funny bit of information!! This is a great love story and if you haven't seen it you should!
