Review of Phone Call from a Stranger (1952) by Anna L — 29 Nov 2008
This is a good melodrama made up of 4 separate stories overlapped by lawyer Gary Merrill as the sole survivor of a plane crash. Each story has a flashback and my favourite is the humourous scene with Shelley Winters as told by the nasty mother-in-law.
Bette Davis's turn as the bedridden wife of salesman Keenan Wynn is worth waiting for. Bette's hard earned lesson on true love makes a profound impact on the lawyer, and is the highlight of the film.
