Review of Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Across the 2nd Dimension (2011) by Ben L — 30 Jan 2012
You have to watch the show, that is an absolute must to enjoy this movie. In fact it might help if, like me, you have seen most of the episodes several times. This is an movie for the fans if ever there was one. In fact it could almost be considered an extra-long episode of the show, because these kind of in-jokes and references to past episodes are commonplace.
The story is typical for Phineas & Ferb, which I feel is a big positive. The last thing I'd want them doing is making radical changes to the already fabulous characters. But they do add some fun twists and turns, since they have more time to work with. I will say that some of the emotions seem a little odd, particularly Phineas' reaction to learning Perry is a secret agent. Plus the movie felt just a tad rushed. They finally had an hour and a half to work with, yet it felt like they were trying to fit it all into fifteen minutes like a normal adventure.
Seeing the alternate reality versions of the characters was funny. It opened up a lot of humorous situations when the 2 versions of the characters hung out with one another. There are a lot of silly references to pop culture things, which is typical for the show, but there are even more references to episodes of the show. Without a doubt your interest in this movie will directly relate to your interest in the show. I love the show so I liked the movie, but if you've never seen the show the movie wouldn't even make sense to you.
