Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Chance L — 12 May 2010
Even thought this film is not in my all-time top ten, it is a favorite of mine over the years. Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington are the stars, and they both do terrific jobs, and it's no wonder that Tom Hanks won the Oscar for Best Actor, but Denzel deserves Best Supporting Actor, just as much.
I would also like to highlight Jason Robard and Mary Steenburgen's performances, as well as Antonio Banderas. This film means more to me than the average court drama. It shoves a mirror in our faces, saying that gays are like everyone else, and they shouldn't be frowned upon.
What a powerful film. One of the best of 1993.
