Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Bob L — 20 Jun 2009
Liked Tom Hanks, but surprisigly Denzel was better. Demme used some kookie camerawork in this and it was quite edgy, however there are moments when the pudding is over egged. The actual court case could have been better, for it's time I suppose was okay, but could have beefed up Robards part more.
The script establishing the legal firm around Hanks is a bit amateur, and some of the characterisation is a bit clunky, but then it's easy to forget this was made in '93. Entertaining, but at times light weight and predictable and contains a few smaltzy bits.
