Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Trisha W — 09 Jul 2009
Very interesting movie. The story tackled a subject that is still a little touchy, let alone for the time period in which it was set. The characters were well played, including a small part played by Antonio Banderas in one of his first English speaking films.
Washington playing the cocky know-it-all who finds a softer side and Hanks playing a very dramatic position battling a disease that so many people feared. The mannerisms that were expressed were obviously shown to give a perspective of the actual life.
They seemed like they were being exaggerated, but at the same time I know that they aren't - those were probably true feelings. The story progressing from just dealing with the disease to losing to it to fighting discrimination against it was just all so well done.
A great movie.
