If you want to win an Oscar, ALWAYS go gay. Bonus points apply when you frame homosexuality in the context of an AIDS-related subplot; and if you REALLY want to wow the Academy, then definitely DO expose your Kaposi's Sarcoma in the middle of a gripping courtroom scene.
Watch this movie for Denzel Washington, who in my opinion was the more effective of the two male leads. Tom Hanks may have taken home the gold, but Denzel had all the glory.
