Review of Philadelphia (1993) by Tom R — 28 May 2011
Philadelphia is a heartbreaking film with two very strong leads. It's hard to say what the film is REALLY about: a courtroom battle about the wrongful termination of a gay lawyer, one of the first movies to tackle AIDS, or a message about intolerance of homosexuals.
Perhaps it's all these things and it has some interesting direction from Jonathan Demme ("interesting" because some elements were very imaginative, like the POV cinematography, and some were peculiar, like the opera scene).
Either way, Philadelphia is definitely worth a viewing due to Tom Hanks and Denzel Washington's performances and the end of the film is very harrowing.
